Welcome to Part III of my series! This week’s topic is my favorite thing to talk about . . . marketing! 

Many entertainment entrepreneurs get into business out of necessity. Maybe you’re a gig worker and need something steady on the side to supplement your income. Or maybe you were gainfully employed as an actor, or writer, or stagehand when the Broadway shutdown cut off all your sources of income (even your survival job!).

The fact is, most entertainment entrepreneurs get into business because they have to and are immediately confronted with having to figure out how the heck to sell their products or services. After all, you can’t make money if you don’t have any customers! 

This is where I see so many people fail. 

They build this great product and put their blood, sweat, and tears into making it the absolute best product on the market . . . and then crickets. No sales. Nothing. Zippo. 

And it’s not their fault! No one taught them how to market a product or service in acting school or film school.

But unfortunately, the old saying “if you build it they will come” doesn’t really apply to business. 

I don’t mean to diminish the major accomplishment of starting a business, but in order to truly take off and succeed you need to know about marketing (or hire someone who does).
