Working ON Your Business Vs. IN Your Business
Jul 13, 2021
If you’re an entrepreneur, chances are you’re working IN your business a lot of the time. This means that you’re doing the day to day tasks that keep your business running, like answering emails, fulfilling orders, updating your website, dealing with customer issues etc.
But, if you’re spending the bulk of your time working IN your business, then you’re severely limiting your growth potential. By not focusing ON your business, you’re probably passing up opportunities you don’t have time to capitalize on, you’re not focusing on larger goals, and you’re not thinking about the future of your business.
This is a trap I see so many entrepreneurs stuck in as they start and grow their business. And heck, I’ve been there too!
As the entrepreneur, it’s your job to grow your business, no one else’s. You care about your business more than any freelancer or employee could ever care about, so if you’re not focusing on ON your business, I suggest making some changes.
The number one reason entrepreneurs get stuck working IN their business is their inability to delegate or outsource. We all think we know our business the best and can do everything ourselves better than anyone else ever could, which is true, BUT . . .
You cannot do it all yourself. Because if you do, you’ll spend time doing lower level work when you could be focusing on more important things that can make a significant impact on your bottom line.
So if you’re stuck in this cycle, consider allocating one hour a day, or one day a week, that you use to focus ON your business. This can be tasks like forming new partnerships, focusing on optimizing your supply chain, improving efficiency in your sales process . . . make one small improvement a day and your business will be in much better shape in no time.
