The Art of Entrepreneurship
Jun 28, 2023
I firmly believe that entrepreneurship is an art form…
Now you might be thinking, “What the heck, Monica. Why???”
And to that I say…
Entrepreneurship requires creativity, vision, resilience, and adaptability; four qualities that are possessed by most if not all artists. Just like a painter who starts with a blank canvas and brings their imagination to life, an entrepreneur embarks on a journey to build something from nothing - many times over if you’re a serial entrepreneur like me.
I always tell clients and folks thinking about starting a new business that entrepreneurship is not only about business plans and financial projections; it's about embracing your creative vision, taking risks, and pushing boundaries. Yes, business plans and financial projections are important, but having a clear creative vision for your business is EVERYTHING.
After all, visionary thinking lies at the heart of entrepreneurship. Great entrepreneurs possess the ability to see beyond the present and envision a future that is different from the status quo. They identify gaps, uncover hidden opportunities, and imagine innovative solutions.
Creativity and innovation are the lifeblood of entrepreneurship. By fostering a creative mindset and cultivating diverse perspectives, you can generate fresh ideas, design unique products or services, and disrupt existing markets. Why else do you think I’ve created my own three businesses??
Much like artists, entrepreneurs are risk-takers. In order to be successful, you have to step out of your comfort zone, embrace uncertainty, and navigate uncharted territories. Successful entrepreneurs understand that failure is not the opposite of success but an inherent part of the journey. And wowza have I failed many times over! By reframing failure as a valuable learning opportunity, you will develop the resilience required to foster your creative endeavors..
I find that the best artists are zealous collaborators, and the same can be said for entrepreneurs. Collaboration and community are key; entrepreneurship is not a solitary pursuit. Surround yourself with people who share your passion, offer guidance, and challenge your ideas. Engage in networking events, join entrepreneurial communities, and seek out opportunities to collaborate.
