The Dream 100 Strategy Isn't My Brainchild.

Mar 01, 2023

It’s a marketing technique that focuses on identifying and targeting the top 100 prospects in your industry to close a sale.

That’s definitely one way to use this strategy, but there are tons of other applications for “Dream 100ing” others! I’ve used this system to get podcast guests, new partners, and yes, attract clients and customers too.

By focusing your efforts on these high-priority prospects, you can increase your chances of success and maximize your return on investment.

Here’s how it works…

Step 1: Identify Your Dream 100 “Prospects”

The first step in the Dream 100 strategy is to identify your top 100 prospects. These are the people or companies that you believe would be the most valuable for your business. They might be influential bloggers or journalists, key industry influencers, potential partners, or even your competitors' customers.

To identify your Dream 100 prospects, start by researching your industry and identifying the top players. Look for people or companies with a large following, a strong online presence, or a reputation for innovation. You can also use tools like Google, LinkedIn, and Twitter to find people or companies that are talking about your industry or related topics.

Once you've identified your top 100 prospects, create a spreadsheet or database to track their contact information and any other relevant details.

Step 2: Develop a Relationship

Once you have identified your Dream 100 prospects, the next step is to start building a relationship with them. This is where you can use a variety of techniques to get on their radar and start establishing a connection.

Some effective ways to build a relationship include:

  • Commenting on their blog posts or social media updates
  • Sharing their content with your own audience on social media
  • Connecting with them on LinkedIn
  • Listen to their podcast and then leave a review

The key is to be genuine and authentic in your approach and engagement. Take the time to understand their needs and interests, and tailor your communications accordingly.

Step 3: Provide Value

As you start building a relationship with your Dream 100 prospects, the next step is to provide them with value. This means offering them something that they find useful or interesting, whether it's a piece of content, an invitation to an event, a product demo, or an introduction to someone in your network.

The goal is to demonstrate your expertise and build trust with your prospects. By providing them with something of value, you show that you are invested in their success and that you have something unique to offer.

Step 4: Follow Up

Building relationships takes time, so it's important to follow up with your Dream 100 prospects on a regular basis. This means staying in touch, congratulating them on successes, providing updates on your business, and continuing to offer value.

Some effective ways to follow up include:

  • Sending a personalized email or message
  • Sharing relevant news or industry insights
  • Inviting them to a webinar or event
  • Asking for feedback on your product or service
  • Offering a special promotion or discount

The key is to stay top of mind without being pushy or aggressive. Respect their time and interests, and continue to provide value in every interaction.

Step 5: Convert Your Dream 100 Prospects

The ultimate goal of the Dream 100 strategy is to convert your prospects into customers or partners, if that’s your strategy.

Once you’ve built a relationship with them, it’s time to “make the ask.”

You could do this by phone, email, social media direct message, LinkedIn message…however it makes the most sense to your relationship with the prospect.

Ask for what you want. Be it to have them be a guest on your podcast, to book a sales meeting, to sign up for a demo…at some point, the time will feel right to make the ask and you’ll see higher results from this than simply doing cold outreach.
