What I Learned in Florida

Aug 08, 2023

This past week, I had the absolute pleasure of working directly with a new equity partner on his new venture. And when I tell you it was life changing…I mean it! But let’s start from the beginning…

My new partner, Justin Jay Johnson, is a sales wizard who took the world by storm, rocking four different roles at Salesforce, and earning the well-deserved title of one of the top Chief Revenue Officers to watch in the tech industry. He was taking a big leap of faith and setting out on his own, determined to create a groundbreaking sales academy that would empower the next generation of sales professionals.

One of my partners mentioned me to him, since he's setting up a new course and group coaching program (ahem, my specialty). After 2 phone calls, we were in business and had a flight booked to FL where I'd work with him for 3 days to create his course curriculum and capture all the content he needed for his marketing funnels.

When I tell you this guy is a high-performer...I mean he wakes up at 5am, does a cold plunge, then works out for 90 minutes while listening to educational podcasts. Like, top 1% of entrepreneurs level of personal performance.

Being around him for 3 days completely immersed me in his daily rituals, and I want to share with you what I took away to practice in my own life:

1. Set a non-negotiable morning ritual. This is something that ALL high-performers do, though everyone's routine looks different. I recommend getting up earlier than you're comfortable (I wake up at 5am) to make the most of your morning. Then while your brain is most susceptible, listen to something that inspires and motivates you. Write down what you're grateful for. Then, get some exercise, even if it's just going for a walk.

2. Activate "Beast Mode." There are 2 sides to you. One is your 10/10 version that's productive, positive, and an all around beast. Then there's your 1/10 version that's lazy, slobbish, makes excuses, etc. Think about what your 10/10 is and how you can activate your beast mode.

3. Evaluate How You Spend Your Time. Time is our most precious resource and many if us (myself included) waste far too much of it. Use tools like google calendar's time tracker to see how you're spending your time, and assess what you should cut or outsource/delegate.

These are just a few of the lessons I learned in Florida, and I can't wait to see where my new morning ritual takes me.

As we wrapped up our intensive three-day immersion, I left Florida with my heart full of gratitude and my mind buzzing with ideas. It reminded me why I love being a serial entrepreneur – the chance to step into diverse worlds and connect with brilliant minds.

So, my fellow Entrepreneurs, I urge you to embrace the power of immersion and self-reflection. Dive headfirst into your projects, connect with your clients on a deeper level, and let the magic unfold. The results will astound you, and you'll find yourself continuously inspired to push your own boundaries and unleash your inner badass.
