What Are You Doing To Celebrate Juneteenth?

What are you doing to celebrate Juneteenth?

This will be the first year that Juneteenth is recognized as an official holiday in New York, and the Broadway community is coming together to celebrate and honor this moment!

The Broadway League recently put out a statement announcing their Broadway Celebrates Juneteenth event coming up on June 19th from 12:00pm to 1:30pm.

The Broadway League’s Black to Broadway Initiative will present Broadway Celebrates Juneteenth, a free outdoor event centered around Black joy and unity that will feature Black Broadway performers in a 90-minute concert. This inaugural event, which is sponsored by MAC Cosmetics and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS with the support of the Times Square Alliance, will take place in Times Square (Broadway between 43rd & 44th Streets) on Saturday, June 19, 2021 from noon – 1:30 PM (rain or shine).

The last 15 months have been a time of reflection for some and a chance to finally speak for others. There’s a definite feeling of change in the air as theaters reopen, contracts are negotiated, and the question “what are you doing to create an inclusive environment that uplifts the BIPOC community” is on the forefront of industry conversations.

I plan to take my family to this event and teach my son about the importance of this newly recognized holiday.
